It’s been a while guys! Sorry about that extended hiatus. If you didn’t already know, I got a job! WOO! I have never been so excited in my life by the thought of employment but those funds were getting preeeeeetty low. Working over here is extremely strange though. I had no idea how well employment was in New Zealand and how many benefits we got until now. To get any kind of benefit over here you have to be considered a full time employee. However, working 40 hours a week doesn’t automatically make you a full time employee which is just weird. So the job I have now, I found on Craigslist. When I saw it on Craigslist, it was advertised as a Receptionist position however when I went to the interview it was at a recruitment company. Because of all my other Craigslist ventures, an alarm went off and I thought it may be a scam. It wasn’t by the way, but here’s why I thought it may have been! On the same day I went for an interview for my current job, I had another interview for a position I really wanted, it was advertised as an Entry Level Communication and PR Associate. Sounds perfect! Well it was far too good to be true. I got to the office which was just off Wall St, sat down with some lady with the generic European accent while she told me how I would be door to door knocking asking for money for charity. Sooo, needless to say I am a little cautious about the way things are worded over here now.
But my new job is perfect! It is so nice to be at a decent job after years of working shitty ones. And by good job I mean Monday to Friday 9 – 5! The job is at a PR Agency working with power PR bitches in Midtown where I pack up cosmetics and send them out to media. It conveniently works out like a paid internship. I got my first pay check last week and boy was that a great day!
That’s another reason I haven’t been able to write as much, I have been exhausted from work. After 3 months of not working, it’s taken a while to get back into things.
Since my last post we have had A LOT of snow here. You’re probably like oh yeah snow, that’s cool. But I mean like crazy blizzards, record low temperatures and getting sent home from work kinda snow. So, that’s been fun. Walking in snow is like a workout where the aim isn’t to burn calories, the aim is not to fall on your face. I have seen someone fall once. Usually, being the bitch that I am, I would have laughed (especially if it was one of these idiotic Manhattan women in their fur and heels). However, this was an old man. It was the worst kind of fall too where he slid and his hip fell on the curb. I rushed to his side but he brushed it off and ran away. God damn pride. If that was me, I would have been in instant tears and threatening to sue the sidewalk. But hey, that’s just me.
My favourite thing we have done lately, scratch that… ever, was see Jay Z live. It was PHENOMENAL and gansta as heeeeeell. I thought I was a pretty big Jay Z fan until we saw him live, in Brooklyn, in a building that he has shares in. ALL of Brooklyn came out to see him, including his Mum. I probably knew the words to about 1/3 of the songs. Everyone else in the entire crowd knew every single word to every single song. The atmosphere was incredible and to be there felt amazing, but that could have just been from the giant marijuana cloud filling the room. We were completely out of place but we didn’t care. I stood there bopping a long and just taking it all in. Jay Z has to be one of my favourite live shows. Not just because of the show itself but because of him as a person. Before his encore he took about 10 minutes to talk to different people in the crowd and thank everyone. He seemed so humble. He even pointed out his Mum in the crowd and with a big smile said “she’s gonna be super proud of me tonight”. Bey and Blue are lucky gals.
